Cities are becoming greener and more future-proof worldwide. This is also the case in Antwerp on Media Square, where an elevation was constructed above an underground car park to plant ten trees.
Media Square is one of the most beautiful squares in Antwerp and has a central location in the city. The reason for the choice to raise the square slightly was that the root growth capacity for all trees could be increased to 436 cubic meters. Here the roots can grow freely and where they can absorb water, oxygen and nutrients.
A special feature of this project is that rainwater is directed to the trees via gutters. This is a sustainable and natural solution for watering the trees.
